Journey Prayer
Before Muhammed (SAW) got the prayer requirement from Allah (SWT) on the Night Journey, how did Muslims pray?
Salam.Your question is very good.As you know as stated in the Qur'an,all ummahs before Muham
mad pbuh era since Adam prophet had been instructed to pray to Allah..In the holy books before the Qur'an (Zabur to Daud,Torah to Musa and Injil to Isa prophet) Allah had instructed to fast and to pray.But Allah did not give details how to make a prayer..So they made prayer not uniform.Several of them made prayer by standing,several of them by kneeling or bowing down and several of them by making sujood.They came together in a place which was regarded as sacred and they bulit a building for praying.In Mecca they got together near kabaa although they were kafirs.Muhammad pbuh and his followers before the event of Isra(night journey) and Mi'raj (lifting to the skies) for receiving the command of prayer just pray near kabaa too.But they made prayer was not the same with the prayer after receiving its command.They prayed just only in the early morning and at night.
They did not make wudhu before praying.The coming of Islam makes everything clear and complete including the last updating holy book in the formof Al Qur'an.We muslims recognize and respect all prophets and all holy books but the last updated until qiyyamah is only the Qur'an which is supplemented by hadith as our life guide.If we obey to all of Allah's commands and prohibitions we will have a happy and safety life here on earth and in the life after death..
